Let me start of by saying, you are my kind of person. Someone who's thinking of automation and scale. At one point, I created a system that included AirTable, AI, and a host of writers & editors to write 1000 blogs a month. It was an automation machine.
I love nothing better than setting up an automation workflow and watching it run smoothly. So, you are in good company when you talk automation and scale.
So, how do you use Zapier and Opus Clips API?
The short answer is, you can't. Not right now at least. Opus Clip API is in closed beta so only a select few have access. I'm not sure if even those users can use Zapier with that golden Opus Clip API ticket.
You are not alone in your quest though. Folks on Reddit and elsewhere are on this journey with you.
If your next question is: "Do I really need an API from Opus Clips to use Zapier?"
Then you have become my favorite reader. Perseverance. Pushing through where others might have given up.
This is a tricky one. The short answer is no, not without a public API. The long answer is, yeah you could but it is so convoluted and the use cases are very slim.
So, plenty of hurdles, for little to no pay off. Hard pass.
Also, if you can quote this movie, we're quickly becoming good friends.
One "hacky" Zap
Email triggers. You could set up an email trigger that sniffs out "Your clips are ready", then use an email parser to extract the link and then continue the workflow - like saving it in a specific folder.
However, everything else will yet have to be manual. I'd rather just wait for the API to be released.
The better API alternative to Opus Clips
Submagic API is in closed beta as well. However, we plan on opening it up to the public mid July. At the time of me writing this, that's two weeks from now. So all your questions about automation, integration, and fevered dreams of scale and world domination is just two weeks away from coming true.
Submagic is put to the test by over 3 million users and enterprises around the world. We're packaging up the product that is loved and tested, into an API so people like you and I can pull strings and orchestrate video creation empires that will dominate. Case studies will be written about you.
Check out the AI video editing API and sign up to be notified the moment it goes public. Then, stop searching, and start executing.
Why Zapier + video = the next big thing
Think bigger. It's not Zapier + video, but more like Video automation. It's just that Zapier is one of the ways video could scale up dramatically.
Video content creation is messy and on some days, draining and painful. You record, export, edit, chop, repurpose, upload, schedule, write titles, and do it all over again. It’s a full-time job.
Now imagine this: You finish a podcast, and everything else—from clip creation to captions to upload—happens while you grab a coffee.
That's what Zapier (or automation) brings to the table. It connects your tools, builds workflows, and saves creators hours each week.
And when Opus Clip opens its API to the public, things could get real spicy.
What could Zapier + Opus Clips look like? Speculate with me.
Redditors and creators are already dreaming up use cases. Here’s what you could automate (once the API opens up):
- New video uploaded to Google Drive or Dropbox? Automatically send it to Opus Clip for repurposing.
- Publish a podcast on Riverside? Trigger a flow that creates shorts, uploads to Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok.
- Add the clip to Notion with the transcript, titles, and hashtags ready to go.
- Auto-upload to Google Drive, create a new post in your social scheduler, and tag your VA.
It's like having a virtual editing army. Now who would not like to have their own army?
So - ready to check out the Submagic API and integrations, with pre-made Zap templates. It's coming, in two weeks. Sign up to be notified.
