The short answer to Does Veed have an API?
No — Veed does not have a public API or SDK available. They currently have no plans to launch one, but if that ever changes, they’ll notify users via email. Till then, see a better option. Scroll down :).
A brief history of Veed’s API aspirations
Back in early 2021, Veed began exploring developer tools—an API draft and even work toward a full SDK appeared on their roadmap. Some tutorials circulated, like Node-based trim examples, hinting Veed’s ambition to enable programmatic video editing. One community post said:
“Veed doesn’t have an api but here is an alternative…”
By mid‑2021, however, momentum died. The SDK never hit beta, the API section was quietly removed, and any reference to “launching our SDK in Jan” vanished from their Indie Hackers profile. There’s no public update on what caused the pivot—maybe engineering shifts, funding realignment, or lack of demand—but the initiative was officially abandoned.
Why Veed is fantastic, API or not
Even without an API, Veed remains a phenomenal browser-based video editor:
- Ultra-accessible UI with trimming, cropping, captions, filters, screen recording, and subtitles that rivals desktop apps.
- AI-powered tools like auto-transcriptions, voice clean-up, and text-to-video with Gemini help creators punch above their weight.
- Collaborative-first, cloud-based, and simplicity-focused—great for small teams and solo creators .
All that said, if you need automation or to integrate video editing into your own app, Veed isn't an option for devs.
All of that's fine and dandy. But you still need an AI video editing API, right?
Enter Submagic: API coming soon, like in 2 weeks.
That’s where we at Submagic jump in. We know creators and agencies want more than manual tools—they want automation, seamless workflows, and the ability to embed powerful editing right into their platforms.
We're thrilled to announce that Submagic will be launching a full-featured API very soon. Here's what you'll be able to do:
- Transcribe and subtitle videos automatically with our Subtitle generator
- Trim videos programmatically using our trim/video editing endpoints
- Extract viral clips effortlessly with Magic Clips
- Add music tracks, images, or sound effects via API calls
- Apply smooth zooms and transitions with auto-zoom effects and AI transitions
- Overlay B‑roll or brand assets, generate descriptions, even translate captions—all by API
Basically, everything you can do in the Submagic editor you’ll soon be able to do by calling a simple endpoint. Whether you're building an agency dashboard or automating content repurposing at scale, you’ll be able to integrate Submagic seamlessly into your stack.
Important: Our API will roll out in phases with just subtitles initially with all other features to follow.
Why trust Submagic?
Because behind it is a creator-first mindset, and +3 million people trust the web app already. We're just making our tec to-go.
- We built Submagic with streamlined workflows, not just flashy features.
- Our internal users—coaches, realtors, agencies—save hours every week on editing, captioning, and repurposing.
- Our transcript accuracy, caption styles, and auto‑edit-by-transcript are best‑in‑class.
Soon, devs and builders will have the same power—minus the manual work.
