You can't cancel Descript, but you can downgrade to free Descript doesn’t say cancel —they prefer the more optimistic “Downgrade to Free.” But whether you're switching tools or just tightening budgets, here’s exactly how to peace out, step by step.
VIDEO
Step 1: Log into descript.com Head to descript.com and log in. If you’re not auto-magically redirected to your dashboard, just head there manually.
Step 2: Find your settings Click your avatar in the top-right corner and select “Settings.” A modal window will pop up.
On the left panel—click “Subscriptions.”
Alternatively, you can click your workspace name on the left and then hit “Settings.” Either route works.
Step 3: Click “Change Plan” (not cancel) Descript avoids the “C” word. Instead, they invite you to “Change Plan.” Once you’re in there, you’ll see an option to “Downgrade to Free.” That’s their version of canceling.
Click it.
Step 4: Survive the offboarding flow Next, you’ll face a mini gauntlet of persuasion: discounts (40% off for 2 months? Tempting), reasons for leaving, and final confirmations.
Click “Continue to Cancellation.” Answer the questions. Then click “Cancel Subscription.”
They’ll toss you one more final confirmation and a chance to leave feedback. Click “Cancel Subscription” again.
Done. You’re out 🎤 That’s it—you’ve officially canceled Descript. Easy peasy, downgradey squeezy.
